PastHorizons: adventures-in-archaeology has an interesting website. An aspect that it examines is the theory that the Viking incomers did not slaughter the inhabitants of this and other settlements, but integrated quite successfully to bring new genetic and cultural trends. So here, perhaps, was a form of Norse dynamic rather than destructive forces from the North?
