Christopher Somerville’s book Britain and Ireland’s Best Wild Places: 500 Essential Journeys was published some three years ago, but certain factors do not date. Jonny Muir’s review in The Ecologist mentions the inclusion of Rhenigidale. To many hostellers this, the setting of the oldest of the three existing Gatliff hostels, particularly deserves a mention – for whether it’s approached by the circuitous road or the direct path, it represenets something ultimate and superlative.
