It is seen here blowing the barley in a field. One of the many pleasures of the hostel is being able to get out of the wind and realising that the thick walls give both protection as well as that sense of security. A local resident once left a nearby island for the first time in her life when she was in her 70s. On returning from Glasgow, she was asked what it was like. &#8220;Very good,&#8221; she said, &#8220;but rather quiet.&#8221; When asked to explain, she was fairly succinct with her reply, &#8220;Well, there was no wind.&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A fairly regular feature of the Howmore weather is the wind.
